You know you were raised Jewish if...You grew up thinking it was normal for someone to shout "Are you okay?" through the bathroom door when you were in there longer than three minutes.

Parsha Beresheis

The whole story of Genesis starts off with the creation I worked for hours to produce the original and then lost in a reboot. However, I have now changed the theme of what I am writing about. This year I decided for a change to leave the first 4 days alone and the creation of man but to focus on a few points in the Parsha.

What was the purpose of creating earth and the Gashmiyous (Physical) World? The answer is to raise the holiness of the mundane to that that of the Kodesh and the end purpose of creation is Moshiach.
I bring down some points about the “sons of G-D” who they could be and finally Chanoch walking with HASHEM. I want to thank my granddaughter Reut for copying and pasting the Rashi in chapter 1 after my loss of the information which in the end with the help of heaven recovered just about everything.

1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 Now the earth was unformed and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep; and the spirit of God hovered over the face of the waters. 3 And God said: 'Let there be light.' And there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day. …
20 And God said: 'Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let fowl fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.'

Living creatures: That there should be life in them. a swarming: Heb. שֶׁרֶץ. Every living thing that is not much higher than the earth is שֶׁרֶץ; among the winged creatures, such as flies; among the insects, such as ants, beetles, and worms; and among the [larger] creatures, such as the weasel, the mouse, the lizard, and their like, and so [among] the fishes. [Note that in most early editions and mss., the reading is וְכָל הַדָּגִים, and all the fishes (and not וְכֵן הַדגָּים).]

This adds a new dimension for up until now the creation was inanimate and plants and now animate life.

21 And God created the great sea-monsters, and every living creature that creeps, wherewith the waters swarmed, after its kind, and every winged fowl after its kind; and God saw that it was good.

The…sea monsters: The great fish in the sea, and in the words of the Aggadah (B.B. 74b), this refers to the Leviathan and its mate, for He created them male and female, and He slew the female and salted her away for the righteous in the future, for if they would propagate, the world could not exist because of them. הַתַּנִינִם is written. [I.e., the final “yud,” which denotes the plural, is missing, hence the implication that the Leviathan did not remain two, but that its number was reduced to one.]- [from Gen. Rabbah 7:4, Midrash Chaseroth V’Yetheroth, Batei Midrashoth, vol 2, p. 225]. living creature: a creature in which there is life.

To understand part of this I bring down the Aggadah from the Talmud: Rab Judah said in the name of Rab: All that the Holy One, blessed be He, created in his world he created male and female. Likewise, Leviathan the slant serpent and Leviathan the tortuous serpent he created male and female; and had they mated with one another they would have destroyed the whole world.19  What [then] did the Holy One, blessed be He, do? He castrated the male and killed the female preserving it in salt for the righteous in the world to come; for it is written: And he will slay the dragon that is in the sea.20  And also Behemoth21  on a thousand hills were created male and female, and had they mated with one another they would have destroyed the whole world.19  What did the Holy One, blessed be He, do? He castrated the male and cooled22  the female and preserved it for the righteous for the world to come; for it is written: Lo now his strength is in his loins23  — this refers to the male; and his force is in the stays of his body,23  — this refers to the female. There also, [in the case of Leviathan], he should have castrated the male and cooled the female [why then did he kill the female]? — Fishes are dissolute.24  Why did he not reverse the process?25  — If you wish, say: [It is because a] female [fish] preserved in salt is tastier. If you prefer, say: Because it is written: There is Leviathan whom Thou hast formed to sport with,26  and with a female this is not proper.27  Then here also [in the case of Behemoth] he should have preserved the female in salt? — Salted fish is palatable, salted flesh is not. This is a nice story but it has a deeper meaning as death was brought into the world by Adam and no creature except the mythical phoenix lives more than 1000 years and is reborn. To this there is no Kabbalah or Medrash. It is nice we say each Sukkos that we hope to have the sides of the Sukkah with the skin of the Leviathan.
However, the word “TANIN GEDOLIM” in Modern Hebrew would be great crocodile. This could be still crocodile and turtles on the fifth day and my comments that follow are more appropriate for the sixth day and we are dealing here with super-croc and pleasaurus.  Rather it appears to describe in my humble opinion great reptiles or dinosaurs. Probably the REEM or Behemoth mentioned in Iyob was actually some Brontosaurus. Could it be that they lived with mankind through the flood? Could it be that stories in other religions of St. George and the Dragon and the Chinese Dragons were flesh eaters who threatened men and mankind brought about their extinction like the Dodo Bird and almost the American Bison. The expedition of the Czar to Teva Noach supposedly recorded giant rooms too high for a giraffe.

22 And God blessed them, saying: 'Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.'

And…blessed them: Because [people] decimate them and hunt them and eat them, they required a blessing; and the beasts also required a blessing, but because the serpent was destined to be cursed, He did not bless them, lest he [the serpent] be included. — [from Gen. Rabbah 11:3, Midrash Tadshe 1] Be fruitful: [The word פְּרוּ is derived from פְּרִי, fruit, meaning produce fruits. and multiply: If He had said only, “Be fruitful,” one would beget one and no more. “And multiply” was therefore said so that one could beget many.

We do not see this blessing by the plants but the plants were food for them supposedly for all before the flood but I am uncertain that the nature of the Tyrannosaurs or the Lion changed but rather they ate from serpents and fish and smaller dinosaurs until the mammal population would increase sufficiently.

23 And there was evening and there was morning, a fifth day. 24 And God said, "Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kind, cattle and creeping things and the beasts of the earth according to their kind," and it was so.

Let the earth bring forth: That is what I explained [verse 14] that everything was created on the first [day], and they required only to be brought forth. — [from Tanchuma Buber, Bereishith 1 Living creatures: which have life. (See above, verse 20.) And creeping things: These are the creeping things, which are low and crawl upon the earth and appear as if they are dragging along, because their movement is not discernible. Every expression of רֶמֶשׁ or שֶׁרֶץ [is translated] in our language [Old French] as conmovres , crawling creatures.

We are now dealing with the mammal and bird population which are warm blooded creatures and supposedly more intelligent than the fishes and reptiles. For Dolphins, wolves, lions are animals that hunt in packs and coordinate their herding and round-up skills as we see today.

25 And God made the beast of the earth after its kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps upon the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good.

And… made: He fixed them in their complete form, and in their full stature. — [from Rosh Hashanah 11a, Chullin 60a]

26 And God said: 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.'

Up until now everything was good and three souls were brought into the world: Nefesh, Ruach, Neshama which is about to be complete with Chaya which is beyond instinct and the humans who merit to build up the 5th soul Yechida which is joining with HASHEM are those who are blessed. However, most of us waste our time on this world in this world and build up shells/skins on our Mitzvos which are called “Klipos”. With the proper intent for Mitzvos we can build up our Yechida soul. The plural is used here to check out the attributes with G-D of Justice and Mercy. Justice said that mankind will sin and bring death into the world. Mercy said that mankind will pray and repent and love HASHEM. What did HASHEM decide – HE thrust aside Justice and instead used Mercy to create man. There is another commentary that says the HASHEM consulted the Angels some of whom said “What is man that you should consider him?” Tehillim 8:4.

Let us make man: From here we learn the humility of the Holy One, blessed be He. Since man was created in the likeness of the angels, and they would envy him, He consulted them. And when He judges kings, He consults with His Heavenly household, for so we find regarding Ahab, that Micah said to him, (I Kings 22:19): “I saw the Lord seated on His throne, and all the host of heaven were standing by Him, on His right and on His left.” Now do “left” or “right” apply to Him ?! But rather, [the passage means that] these [angels] were standing on the right to defend, and these [angels] were standing on the left to prosecute. Likewise, (Dan. 4:14): “By the decree of the destructive angels is the matter, and by the word of the holy ones is the edict.” Here too, He took counsel with His heavenly household. He said to them, “Among the heavenly beings, there are some in My likeness. If there are none in My likeness among the earthly beings, there will be envy among the creatures of the Creation. ” - [from Tanchuma, Shemoth 18; Gen. Rabbah 8:11, 14:13] Let us make man: Even though they [the angels] did not assist Him in His creation, and there is an opportunity for the heretics to rebel (to misconstrue the plural as a basis for their heresies), Scripture did not hesitate to teach proper conduct and the trait of humility, that a great person should consult with and receive permission from a smaller one. Had it been written: “I shall make man,” we would not have learned that He was speaking with His tribunal, but to Himself. And the refutation to the heretics is written alongside it [i. e., in the following verse:]“And God created (וַיִּבְרָא) ,” And it does not say, “and they created וַיִּבְרְאוּ.” - [from Gen. Rabbah 8:9] In our image: in our form. After our likeness: to understand and to discern. and they shall rule over the fish: Heb. וְיִרְדּוּ This expression contains both the meaning of ruling and the meaning of subservience. If he merits, he rules over the beasts and over the cattle. If he does not merit, he becomes subservient to them, and the beast rules over him. — [from Gen. Rabbah 8:12]

27 And God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them.

It appears that man and woman were both created a Siamese Twins with woman or hermaphrodite and then separated. One Rabbi says that man was created back to back another joined at the hip/rib.

And God created man in His image: In the form that was made for him, for everything [else] was created with a command, whereas he [man] was created with the hands (of God), as it is written (Ps. 139:5): “and You placed Your hand upon me.” Man was made with a die, like a coin, which is made by means of a die, which is called coin in Old French. And so Scripture states (Job 38:14): “The die changes like clay.” - [from Letters of Rabbi Akiva , second version; Mid. Ps. 139:5; Sanh. 38a] male and female He created them: Yet further (2:21) Scripture states: “And He took one of his ribs, etc.” The Midrash Aggadah (Gen. Rabbah 8:1, Ber. 61a, Eruvin 18a) explains that He originally created him with two faces, and afterwards, He divided him. The simple meaning of the verse is that here Scripture informs you that they were both created on the sixth [day], but it does not explain to you how they were created, and it explains [that] to you elsewhere. — [from Baraitha of the Thirty Two Methods , Method 13]

In the image of Angels and G-D meaning ability to speak, think and even like G-D create things or inventions.

28 And God blessed them; and God said unto them: 'Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that creeps upon the earth.'

Here it is clear that ONENESS created man and not a plural. You shall rule over the animal kingdom and have the power to genetically mutate or extinct species or protect endangered species.

And subdue it: The“vav” [in וְכִבְשֻׁהָ is missing, [allowing the word to be read וְכִבְשָׁה, the masculine singular imperative] to teach you that the male subdues the female that she should not be a gadabout (Gen. Rabbah 8:12), and it is also meant to teach you that the man, whose way it is to subdue, is commanded to propagate, but not the woman (Yev. Yev. 65b).

This is why the woman can use contraceptives or drink a potion that will make her impotent and only if a male goes to Pekuach Nefesh with Prostate or other Cancer and he stop his fertility in order to live. Rashi does not know from political correctness or feminism but tells the creation of man as he was taught. The man was built taller and physically stronger than his wife and she was built rounder around the middle for being able to give birth.

29 And God said: 'Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed--to you it shall be for food;

The ground gave forth all the vitamins and minerals needed by man before the flood and he would be healthy being a vegan or vegetarian not so after the flood.

30 and to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to everything that creeps upon the earth, wherein there is a living soul, [I have given] every green herb for food.' And it was so.

This appears that at this time wolves, lions, bears, etc. ate some form of soy, wheat, berries and that sufficed them too. Did this go also for birds, fishes, reptiles and amphibians etc.?

it will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth: He equated cattle and the beasts to them [to man] regarding the food [that they were permitted to eat]. He did not permit Adam and his wife to kill a creature and to eat its flesh; only every green herb they were all permitted to eat equally. When the sons of Noah came, He permitted them to eat flesh, as it is said (below 9:3): “Every creeping thing that is alive, etc.” Like the green herbs, which I permitted to the first man, I have given you everything. — [from Sanh. 59b.

This would make in the future grasshoppers, animals and other things like snakes edible for mankind after the flood.

31 And God saw everything that He had made, and, behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.

The sixth day: Scripture added a “hey” on the sixth [day], at the completion of the Creation, to tell us that He stipulated with them, [“you were created] on the condition that Israel accept the Five Books of the Torah.” [The numerical value of the “hey” is five.] (Tanchuma Bereishith 1). Another explanation for “the sixth day” : They [the works of creation] were all suspended until the “sixth day,” referring to the sixth day of Sivan, which was prepared for the giving of the Torah (Shab. 88a). [The“hey” is the definite article, alluding to the well-known sixth day, the sixth day of Sivan, when the Torah was given (ad loc.).]

After man was created, the creation was very good.

2:1 And the heaven and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God finished His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.

And God completed on the seventh day: Rabbi Shimon said: [A human being of] flesh and blood, who cannot [exactly] know his times and his moments, must add from the profane to the holy [i.e., he must add some time to the Sabbath.] The Holy One, blessed be He, Who knows His times and His moments [exactly], entered it [the Sabbath] within a hairbreadth, and it therefore appeared as if He completed it [His work] on that day. Another explanation: What was the world lacking? Rest. The Sabbath came, and so came rest. The work was completed and finished. — [from Gen. Rabbah 10:9]And God completed on the seventh day: Rabbi Shimon said: [A human being of] flesh and blood, who cannot [exactly] know his times and his moments, must add from the profane to the holy [i.e., he must add some time to the Sabbath.] The Holy One, blessed be He, Who knows His times and His moments [exactly], entered it [the Sabbath] within a hairbreadth, and it therefore appeared as if He completed it [His work] on that day. Another explanation: What was the world lacking? Rest. The Sabbath came, and so came rest. The work was completed and finished. — [from Gen. Rabbah 10:9]

If HASHEM rested on Shabbos should we not try to emulate him? Instead most of mankind profanes that day and it is only the Bnei Yisrael that have the merit to observe it like it was intended at creation. As it is written “a fool does not know (what Shabbos is)” Tehillim 92:7.

3 And God blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it; because that in it He rested from all His work which God in creating had made.

And…blessed…and hallowed: He blessed it with manna, for on all the days of the week, it descended for them [in the amount of] an omer per person, whereas on the sixth day,[each one received] a double portion. And He hallowed it with manna, that it did not descend at all on the Sabbath. This verse is written with reference to the future. — [from Gen. Rabbah 11:2] That God created to do: The work that was fit to be done on the Sabbath, He doubled up and did it on the sixth [day], as is explained in Genesis Rabbah (11:9).

This miracle occurred to show the holiness of the Shabbos.

…7 Then the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. 8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward, in Eden; and there He put the man whom He had formed. … 18 And the LORD God said: 'It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a help meet for him.'

Medrash: He who dwells without a wife does not have GOOD! Rabbi Yose HaGalili married his sister’s daughter. The sister must have had something against R’ Yose as the daughter would make beans if he wanted lentils or lentils if he wanted beans. She did everything against him. The Hebrew of the Pasuk means either against or balance. This woman was against him. One day he asked his son to tell his mother that R’ Yose wanted lentils to his surprise he got lentils. He inquired into the matter and found out that his son had told a fib for Shalom Beis. Rav Yose did not like this and told him never to fib again. His students said to him why don’t you divorce her if she is like this? He said to them that he did not have the money for the Ketubah. They raised the amount and he married a better woman. She married the town watchman. However, both a cataract or disease over took the man and he became blind. The wife used to lead him through the streets but she would not take him on the street of Rabbi Yose as she was too embarrassed as although he was a big charity giver she felt bad at what she had done to him and herself. One day the watchman figured out that he was deigned money and started beating her with his brute watchman strength. Rabbi Yose heard the screams and came out. After that he gave them an apartment and meals for the rest of their lives.

5:19 And Jared lived after he begot Enoch eight hundred years, and begot sons and daughters. 20 And all the days of Jared were nine hundred sixty and two years; and he died. 21 And Enoch lived sixty and five years, and begot Methuselah. 22 And Enoch walked with God after he begot Methuselah three hundred years, and begot sons and daughters. 23 And all the days of Enoch were three hundred sixty and five years. 24 And Enoch walked with God, and he was not; for God took him.

And Enoch walked: He was a righteous man, but he could easily be swayed to return to do evil. Therefore, the Holy One, blessed be He, hastened and took him away and caused him to die before his time. For this reason, Scripture changed [the wording] in [the account of] his demise and wrote, “and he was no longer” in the world to complete his years. — [from Gen. Rabbah 25:1] For God had taken him: Before his time, like (Ezek. 24:16):“behold I am taking from you the desire of your eyes.” - [from Gen. Rabbah 25:1]

According to the Zohar he became the Arch-Angel Metaron.

6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, 2 that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives, whomsoever they chose.

The sons of the nobles: Heb. בְּנֵי הָאֱלֹהִים, the sons of the princes (Targumim) and the judges (Gen. Rabbah 26:5). Another explanation: בְּנֵי הָאֱלֹהִים are the princes who go as messengers of the Omnipresent. They too mingled with them (Pirkei d’Rabbi Eliezer, ch. 22). Every אֱלֹהִים in Scripture is an expression of authority, and the following proves it (Exod. 4:16): “And you shall be to him as a lord (לֵאלֹהִים)”; (ibid. 7:1): “See, I have made you a lord (אֶלֹהִים).” When they were beautifying themselves: Heb., טֹבֹת. Said Rabbi Judan: It is written טבת [i.e., instead of טובות. Thus it can be read טָבַת, meaning to beautify.] When they would beautify her, adorned to enter the nuptial canopy, a noble would enter and have relations with her first (Gen. Rabbah 26:5). From whomever they chose: Even a married woman, even males and animals (Gen. Rabbah ad loc.).

3 And the LORD said: 'My spirit shall not abide in man forever, for that he also is flesh; therefore shall his days be a hundred and twenty years.'

Let My spirit not quarrel forever: Let My spirit not complain and quarrel because of man. Forever: for a long time. Behold My spirit is quarreling within Me whether to destroy or to have mercy. Let this quarrel in My spirit not endure forever, i.e., for a long time. Because he is also flesh: Heb. בְּשַׁגָּם, like בְּשֶׁגַּם, i.e., because this is also in him that he is [only] flesh, and nevertheless, he does not subordinate himself before Me. What if he were fire or a hard substance? [i.e., How much greater would his insubordination be!] Similar to this, (Jud. 5:7): “Until I Deborah arose (שַׁקַּמְתִּי)”, as if it were written שֶׁקַּמְתִּי, and similarly, (ibid. 6:17): “that You (שָׁאַתָּה) are speaking with me,” as if it were written שֶׁאַתָּה. So too, בְּשַׁגָּם is like בְּשֶׁגַּם. And his days shall be: Until a hundred and twenty years I will delay My wrath towards them, but if they do not repent, I will bring a flood upon them. Now if you ask: from the time that Japheth was born until the Flood are only a hundred years, [I will answer that] there is no [sequence of] earlier and later events in the Torah. This decree had already been issued twenty years before Noah begot children, and so we find in Seder Olam (ch. 28). There are many Aggadic midrashim on the words לֹא יָדוֹן, but this is its clear, simple explanation.

4 The Nephilim were in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bore children to them; the same were the mighty men that were of old, the men of renown.

The Nephilim: [They were called נְפִילִים because they fell (נָפְלוּ) and caused the world to fall (הִפִּילוּ) (Gen. Rabbah 26:7), and in the Hebrew language it means giants (Pirkei d’Rabbi Eliezer, ch. 22 and Targum Jonathan). In those days: in the days of the generation of Enosh and the children of Cain. And also afterward: Although they had seen the destruction of the generation of Enosh, when the ocean rose up and inundated a third of the world, the generation of the Flood did not humble themselves to learn from them. — [from Mechilta Yithro, Massechta Bachodesh 6; Sifrei Ekev 743] When…would come: They [the mothers] would bear giants like them [the fathers]. — [from Gen. Rabbah 26:7] Mighty men: to rebel against the Omnipresent. — [Yelammednu, Batei Midrashoth, p. 148] The men of renown: Heb. אַנְשֵׁי הַשֵּׁם Those who were called by name: Irad, Mechujael, Methushael, who were so named because of their destruction, for they were wiped out (מְחוּיָאֵל from נִמּוֹחוּ) and uprooted; (מְתוּשָׁאֵל from הֻתָּשׁוּ). Another explanation: men of desolation (שִׁמָּמוֹן), who made the world desolate. — [from Gen. Rabbah 26:7]

Interesting enough Professor Yoel Barak of the University of Tel Aviv explored a cave in the Galil and found there skeletons of both modern man and Neanderthals living side by side. The Neanderthals were very intelligent but their jaw structure made it next to impossible to talk for communication. Were the Nephilim really Neanderthals or were they fallen Angels or Princes? According to the Medrash there are 7 names given to the species called the Nephilim and one of them is Anak. Also there are names of fallen angels mentioned and I brought this down in the past. However, I don’t buy that story. The reason being that a Malach or Angel is given a specific mission and follows orders. Example: “Have you considered MY servant Iyob… but you shall not touch him.” Iyob Chapter 1. Now since the Angel cannot deviate to the right or the left of what HASHEM tells him, he cannot rebel and fall in love with the fair women and have relations. It just does not make sense not according to my understanding of the Kabbala or Genetics. Therefore, I prefer Rashi’s explanation that they were princes and perhaps nobles or generals that physically took a woman against her will.

Sometimes mistranslated as Giants or Anak in literature but wait: From Dr. Harry "Sent to me from a friend in Israel" Biblical Giants Unearthed in Golan Heights? [image: 9-foot-giant] (in article)

*A recent archeological dig has unearthed not less then two dozen skeletons of giant proportions near the ancient ruins of Rujm el-Hiri, located in the Golan Heights, a contested area claimed by both Syria and Israel. The team of archeologists led by the University of Tel-Aviv claims that the skeletons might be older then the ruins themselves, already dating back to 5000 years, according to mainstream archeology.*

<< It is clearly an unexpected find >> explains chief archeologist, Tom Yiggur. << The site of Rujm el-Hiri has been extensively searched for decades already, but our team noticed a mound nearby which we thought was of major interest. It has been two long years, but it was definitely worth the effort! >> he explains, visibly enthusiast.

The Rujm el-Hiri site which consists of an estimated 40,000 tons of uncut black volcanic basalt field stones piled and wedged into between five and nine concentric rings has always been a site of interest to biblical archeology because of its mention in the Bible.

<< It is said in the Bible, that Og, King of Bashan, ruled over these lands. Og and his mighty army was slain by Moses and he is said to have been the last of the *Rephaim*, a hebrew word meaning giant. Could this be the resting ground of these mythical giants the Bible tells us about? I would not be surprised! >> explains Guntar Web, head of the Department of Biblical Studies at the University of Tel-Aviv. << One of the giants was covered in a copper armor. One of the copper swords was also as hard as steel and made in a fashion unknown to us. This is definitely the most interesting dig I have ever laid my eyes upon >> explains the man who has been in the field for over four decades.

5 And the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And it repented the LORD that He had made man on the earth, and it grieved Him at His heart. 7 And the LORD said: 'I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and creeping thing, and fowl of the air; for it repents Me that I have made them.' 8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.

Parsha Noach

6:9 These are the generations of Noah. Noah was in his generations a man righteous and whole-hearted; Noah walked with God.

These are the generations of Noah—Noah was a righteous man: Since Scripture mentions him, it tells his praise, as it is said (Prov. 10:7): “The mention of a righteous man is for a blessing.” - [Pesikta Rabbathi 12]. Another explanation [for why the names of the children are not mentioned immediately following “These are the generations of Noah”]: To teach you that the main generations [progeny] of the righteous are good deeds. — [Mid. Tan. Noah 2] In his generations: Some of our Sages interpret it [the word בְּדֹרֹתָיו] favorably: How much more so if he had lived in a generation of righteous people, he would have been even more righteous. Others interpret it derogatorily: In comparison with his generation he was righteous, but if he had been in Abraham’s generation, he would not have been considered of any importance. — [Sanh. 108a, Gen. Rabbah 30:9, Tan. Noach 5] Noah walked with God: But concerning Abraham, Scripture says (below 24:40): “[the Lord] before Whom I walked.” Noah required [God’s] support to uphold him [in righteousness], but Abraham strengthened himself and walked in his righteousness by himself. — [Tan. Noach 5] walked: (הִתְהַלֶּךְ) is here in the past tense. The following is the usage of the “lammed” : in the “heavy” (כָּבֵד) form [this refers to conjugations with a dagesh in one of the root letters, in this case, in the lammed], one form can be used [both] for the future [really the imperative] and the past tense. For example, (Gen. ibid. 13): “Rise, walk (הִתְהַלֵּךְ)” is the future (i.e., imperative). “Noah walked (הִתְהַלֶּךְ)” is the past. (I Sam. 12:19): “Pray (הִתְפַּלֵּל) for your servants” is future (i.e., imperative), and (I Kings 8:42) “and he will come and pray (וְהִתְפַּלֵּל) toward this house” is past, only that the “vav” at the beginning converts it to the future. — [as explained by Mizrachi]

There is a dispute among the Sages as to Noach being a real Tzaddik or only a Tzaddik relative to the wicked of his generation. Another opinion is that since he was a Tzaddik in his generation, he would have been a Tzaddik in the times of Chezkiyahu or Hillel and Shammai. For in our generation not to be for not getting married and having it all vs. getting married young and raising a family is a real test and challenge. I hold that those who marry young enjoy grandchildren sooner. So the reward is not only in the next but in this world. The problem in our generation arises with the shy people and I know plenty of good men who are missing out by presenting a bad impression on women and vice versa.

10 And Noah begot three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth. 11 And the earth was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.

The word used in the Torah is “Hamas”. We see that Hamas angers G-D but because the L-RD is compassionate, they are allowed to live to enable some of them to repent.

12 And God saw the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted their way upon the earth.

Believe me when I say that the situation is coming to a head at this time and I have heard this time the destruction will not be by water but this time by fire. An Atomic Bomb or so?

13 And God said unto Noah: 'The end of all flesh is come before Me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

Noach is commanded to build the Teva and then down to the specific animals that are kosher not in pairs but in 7 pairs for HASHEM knows that afterwards the kashrut of animals, fish and fowl will be specified.

7:1 And the LORD said unto Noah: 'Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before Me in this generation. 2 Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee seven and seven, each with his mate; and of the beasts that are not clean two [and two], each with his mate; 3 of the fowl also of the air, seven and seven, male and female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth. 4 For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I blot out from off the face of the earth. … 15 And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh wherein is the breath of life. 16 And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God commanded him; and the LORD shut him in.

And the Lord shut him in: He protected him (Targum Onkelos) that they should not break it; He surrounded the ark with bears and lions, and they killed some of them (Tan. Buber Noach 10). The simple meaning of the verse is that He closed [the ark] in front of him against the water. Likewise, every בְּעַד in Scripture is an expression of “in front of.” (Below 20:18): “in front of (בְּעַד) every womb”; (II Kings 4:4): “in front of you (בַּעֲדֵךְ) and in front of (וּבְעַד) your sons”; (Job 2:4): “skin in front of (בְּעַד) skin” ; (Ps. 3:4): “a shield in front of me (בַּעֲדִי)”; (I Sam. 12:19): “Pray בְּעַד your servants,” meaning “in front” [on behalf] of your servants.

17 And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bore up the ark, and it was lifted up above the earth. 18 And the waters prevailed, and increased greatly upon the earth; and the ark went upon the face of the waters. 19 And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high mountains that were under the whole heaven were covered. 20 Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered. … 24 And the waters prevailed upon the earth a hundred and fifty days.

8:1 And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that were with him in the ark; and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters assuaged; 2 the fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained.

Up until this year I did not understand the fountains of the deep. I have seen Yellowstone so I understood the phenomena but the quantity I could not understand until finally this year I read about underground rocks that contain more water than all the oceans of the planet. This is what is meant by the fountains of the deep and they were stopped by HASHEM.

3 And the waters returned from off the earth continually; and after the end of a hundred and fifty days the waters decreased. 4 And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat. 5 And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen. 6 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made. 7 And he sent forth a raven, and it went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth. 8 And he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground. 9 But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him to the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth; and he put forth his hand, and took her, and brought her in unto him into the ark. 10 And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark. 11 And the dove came in to him at eventide; and lo in her mouth an olive-leaf freshly plucked; so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. 12 And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; and she returned not again unto him anymore. 13 And it came to pass in the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth; and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dried. 14 And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dry. 15 And God spoke unto Noah, saying: 16 'Go forth from the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons' wives with thee. 17 Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee of all flesh, both fowl, and cattle, and every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth; that they may swarm in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.' 18 And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him; 19 every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, whatsoever moves upon the earth, after their families; went forth out of the ark. 20 And Noah built an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt-offerings on the altar.

The burnt offering was first done by Kayn and Hevel and there was the first murder or fratricide.

21 And the LORD smelled the sweet savor; and the LORD said in His heart: 'I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake; for the imagination of man's heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more everything living, as I have done. 22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.'

Originally it appears that the sun was only directly above the equator and the days and nights were equal with no seasons now the earth had tilted on in Axis and no longer was there an Ayd that went out of Gan Eden to water the plants and trees.

And day and night shall not cease: From here we deduce that they ceased for the duration of the Flood: the planets did not function, and day was indistinguishable from night. — [from Gen. Rabbah 25:2, 34:11]

9:1 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them: 'Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth. 2 And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, and upon all wherewith the ground teems, and upon all the fishes of the sea: into your hand are they delivered.

As long as you look human and act human the birds and animals will fear us but if we act animalistic, then they will be able to attack us.

3 Every moving thing that lives shall be for food for you; as the green herb have I given you all.

This is a big change from the original creation as the earth could not yield enough vitamins and minerals after the flood and meat and fish had to be a substitute.

4 Only flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

The blood of the animal is its soul and you do not have to be blood thirsty like ISIS that lick the blood of their human victims.

5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it; and at the hand of man, even at the hand of every man's brother, will I require the life of man.

If not in this world then after 120 years!

6 Whoso sheds man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God made He man.

If not in this world then after 120 years! This does not apply to the one who stops a pursuer or a defense force.

Through man shall his blood be shed: If there are witnesses, you kill him. Why? “For in the image of God, etc.” He made man: This is an elliptical verse. It should read: “the Maker made man,” and there are many such instances in Scripture.

7 And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; swarm in the earth, and multiply therein.'

The population shall fill the earth. The word “SHARTZU” to populate like a swarm of insects or school of fish is used.

And you, be fruitful and multiply: According to its simple meaning: the first [mention of this expression] (verse 1) was a blessing, and this [mention] is a commandment. According to its midrashic interpretation, [it is written here] to compare one who does not engage in propagation to one who sheds blood. — [from Yev. 63b]

8 And God spoke unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying: 9 'As for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you, and with your seed after you;

And I, behold I: Agree with you, for Noah was afraid to engage in propagation until the Holy One, blessed be He, promised him never to destroy the world again, and so He did. He ultimately said to him, “Behold I agree to make a confirmation and a strengthening of a covenant for My promise, and I will give you a sign.” - [from Tan. Buber, Noach 17]

10 and with every living creature that is with you, the fowl, the cattle, and every beast of the earth with you; of all that go out of the ark, even every beast of the earth. 11 And I will establish My covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of the flood; neither shall there anymore be a flood to destroy the earth.'

Contrary to the Rashi in 9 I see this as a qualifier to a flood in the future. According to the ancients there were four elements (forms of matter) which are air (gas), fire (plasma), earth (solid) and water (liquid) thus there will never ever be a liquid death on the whole world again. This excludes earthquakes, fire, poisonous air or a combination of the three. For they are the other forms of matter that can be used as a punishment.

And I will establish: I will make a confirmation for My covenant, and what is its confirmation? The rainbow, as it [Scripture] proceeds to conclude. [Note that the Oxford ms. and the Guadalajara ed. read: the sign of the rainbow. However, our edition coincides with other early editions.]

12 And God said: 'This is the token of the covenant which I make between Me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: 13 I have set My bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between Me and the earth.

For everlasting generations: It [the word דֹרֹת] is written defectively [without the letter “vav”] because there were generations that did not require the sign because they were completely righteous, such as the generation of Hezekiah, the king of Judah, and the generation of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai (Gen. Rabbah 35:2).

What can I say about our generation that sees double rainbows and double rainbows from horizon to horizon? It reflects on both the population and on the leading Rabbis.

14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring clouds over the earth, and the bow is seen in the cloud, 15 that I will remember My covenant, which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh.

Me and between you and between every living creature among all flesh, and the water will no longer become a flood to destroy all flesh.

16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.'

Between God and between every living creature: Between the Standard of Justice of Heaven and between you, for it should have stated, “Between Me and every living creature!” But the following is its midrashic interpretation: When the standard of justice comes to accuse you (to condemn you), I will see the aforementioned sign. — [Gen. Rabbah 35:3] Other editions read: I will see the sign, and it will be remembered.

17 And God said unto Noah: 'This is the token of the covenant which I have established between Me and all flesh that is upon the earth.' 18 And the sons of Noah, that went forth from the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth; and Ham is the father of Canaan. 19 These three were the sons of Noah, and of these was the whole earth overspread. 20 And Noah the husbandman began, and planted a vineyard. 21 And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent.

Both Noach, Lot, Sisera, Haman and wicked king who tried to wife Yehudis the daughter of the Maccabee Cohain Gadol they all were over-come by wine. Therefore, one should always drink wine, beer and hard liquor in moderation.

11:1 And the whole earth was of one language and of one speech. 2 And it came to pass, as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. 3 And they said one to another: 'Come, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly.' And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar. 4 And they said: 'Come, let us build us a city, and a tower, with its top in heaven, and let us make us a name; lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.'

It is strange to make a tower in a plain when one should have built the tower on a high mountain like Ararat. It was more than just a tower to make a name as there are towers in Dubai and Malaysia but this tower was to make war with heaven against another flood. Also the children of Noach were commanded to fill the world and they want to concentrate around this tower.

5 And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built. 6 And the LORD said: 'Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is what they begin to do; and now nothing will be withheld from them, which they purpose to do. 7 Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.' 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth; and they left off to build the city. 9 Therefore was the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth; and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

Babel in Hebrew is to confuse and in English to talk nonsense or mutter something and Bavel in the name of the land in Hebrew.

10 These are the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and begot Arpachshad two years after the flood. 11 And Shem lived after he begot Arpachshad five hundred years, and begot sons and daughters. …

This whole section was in order to give the genealogy of Avram who would become Avraham Avinu.

26 And Terah lived seventy years, and begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran. 27 Now these are the generations of Terah. Terah begot Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begot Lot. 28 And Haran died in the presence of his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees. 29 And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah. 30 And Sarai was barren; she had no child. 31 And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his son's son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there. 32 And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran.

Four little miracles for Michal and Mordechai or the barren woman is the mother of children – happy Halleluyah! Tehillim 113:9

For years Michal and Mordechai underwent fertility treatments and had miss abortions. They hired a family for vitriol fertilization. While the surrogate mother with the good womb was 3 months pregnant, Michal had been told that she could not give birth. However, suddenly she was pregnant at first it seemed to be an OK child but then the ultra-sound revealed two heart beats. A further ultra-sound showed three heart beats on the same placenta. The doctors operated within 45 all the babies had to be out of the womb. Now joyfully Michal and Mordechai have 4 mouths to feed and a slew of baby bottles, diapers, etc. Older sister is three months older and does not yet appreciate her two brothers and sister.

Another Miracle: During Operation Protective Edge, Staff Sgt. Yakir of the 188th Armored Brigade witnessed a frightening event. “I was guarding the structure we were in, when I saw an anti-tank missile strike the building next to us. I knew that there was a Golani force inside the building,” he said. Split-second later, the missile emerged from the other side of the building. “No one was injured; it was a miracle.”

On Tuesday this week the Charedi Papers featured an attack by 2 Arab Infiltrators in Beit El and they fire bombed houses but with the exception of one fire not much damage was done and the fire was extinguished quickly.

I receive a lot of mail from Gail Winston since the war and sometimes she brings down interesting Israeli Life insights and thoughts which are similar to mine. As Leo Derocher (July 27, 1905 – October 7, 1991) once said: “It ain’t over until it is over!” Now, WHY do I still call these Diaries the Gaza War Diaries.  Because it’s not over.  Note the $5.4 Billion raised by the world to re-build Gaza (without demilitarizing Hamas)! http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/oct/13/thomas-rebuilding-gaza-for-the-next-attack/ And an article about the Greece-Cyprus-Israeli Cooperation against the Jihad as we are on the forefront. http://www.meforum.org/4804/israel-challenges-in-the-eastern-mediterranean
Over the Sukkot/Simchat Torah Chag I heard many stories about our soldiers who returned safely to their pregnant wives & about those who have made a miraculous recovery despite: one soldier survived a bullet that entered his ear & exited his eye!!??  He’s functioning, walking, talking – will still need extensive rehab.  Another who has a piece of shrapnel lodged deep in his brain where they can’t remove it.  He is also functioning…like normal? I don’t know.  I’ll try to get more details.
And now, back to reality.  I just returned from seeing the World Premiere of the movie “Body & Soul: The State of the Jewish Nation”.  It was a brilliant ‘tour de’ force” with all my most favorite speakers, historians, experts, archeologists, quotes from the Torah, paintings of our past history & photos of our recent past history – settling the Jewish Homeland as promised in the Balfour Declaration of November 2, 1917, signed in the San Remo Treaty of April 25, 1920, ratified by the League of Nations in 1922 & never abrogated.  ALL the nations (including the Arab League) accepted ALL the League of Nations resolutions & treaties when the League of Nations became the United Nations.  I’ll bet the Arab & Muslim countries leaders & people don’t know that big fact.  I’ll bet Sec. of State John Kerry & Pres. Barack Hussein Obama don’t know that very big fact.

Imagine if I organized a protest in the States against Kikes or Niggers moving into a neighborhood I received this from Gail Winston

Arieh King – Facebook: Knesset speaker Yuli Edelstein (Likud) toured the City of David Monday. The City of David, considered the heart of the Jewish capital in Biblical times, is located just south of the Old City of Jerusalem.
The tour followed Sunday night's headlining entry of nine Jewish families into homes in Jerusalem's Shiloach (Silwan) neighborhood, located adjacent to the City of David. The homes were purchased from Arabs.
Jerusalem Councilman Arieh King told Arutz Sheva on Monday morning that the families took residency in nine housing units in "Beit Ovadia" and "Beit Frumkin," located in the "Yemenite Village" area of Shiloach.
The village was founded by Jewish immigrants from Yemen in the 1880s, who were later expelled by the British in 1938 following violent Arab rioting.
While visiting the new residents of Shiloach, Edelstein affixed a mezuzah to the door of one of the houses, before reciting the blessing on it.  "Exactly 84 years ago, the White Paper was published, restricting the sale of land to Jews. Yet we prevailed and today, it is only us who put our fate in our country, especially in Jerusalem the capital," Edelstein said.
Three weeks ago, dozens of Jews settled in six houses in the City of David, on the other side of Shiloach. The buildings were legally purchased by an American company and are owned by Jews, but Arab residents claimed that the houses belonged to three veteran Arab families, sparking protest.  During the move, several Arabs attempted to enter one of the Jewish homes by force. Rioters then began attacking police. The Arabs threw rocks and fireworks at security forces, who were forced to calm the crowd using riot dispersal means.
The Ateret Cohanim organization, who aims to strengthen the Jewish presence in Jerusalem, particularly in eastern Jerusalem neighborhoods, was the force behind this latest housing acquisition.

GAIL WINSTON gail@winstonglobal.org  Gaza War Diary:  Fri. Oct. 17 DAY 102
Dear Family & Friends,
The Middle East “Conflict” is a real, honest-to-badness Religious War.   IF Western civilized countries, like the US, UK, EU, parts of the UN recognized that basic fact, maybe we’d be able to successfully defeat ISIS, ISIL, IRAN, Hamas, Hezb’Allah, AQAP, Al Qaeda in Yemen, etc. before Iran succeeds in nuclearizing, thereby endangering the entire world.
This is not an Israeli issue.  It’s first of all, an American issue IF President Obama & Secretary of State Kerry insist that the ‘absence of Israeli-Pal peace talks are more critical than ever.
Only if America leads or gets out of the way, can the rest of the Free World awaken to reality, take leadership control & fight back against the Death Cult that resides fundamentally in Islam.  The roots of the Conflict come from the 7th Century, when Mohammed broke the 10 year Hudabaiya Treaty he had made with the Jewish Qaraish Tribe to pray in Mecca.  Mohammed returned when militarily stronger, decapitating between 800 & 900 Jewish men (different sources) and put the Jewish women & children into slavery.  This is the root cause of the ISIS “license to behead”.
Wake up!  Maybe it’s not too late.
On that happy note, please have a peaceful Shabbat.  All the very best,
Gail/Geula/Savta/Savta Raba/Mom

Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau Shlita said that Simchas Torah is for all Jews as the Torah was given to everybody. However, this did not give the right to the Reform to desecrate the Torah by wrapping themselves in a scroll. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/186305#.VERpqRYcNlA

Judaism does not change due to public clamor or politically correct statements. Even in the times of the Tanach when statues and Baal Peor was popular we held firm. Catholic Church approach to Homosexuality changing http://www.wnd.com/2014/10/vatican-homosexuals-have-gifts-to-offer-christians/?cat_orig=faith and now the Protestants too: http://www.wnd.com/2014/10/mega-pastor-signals-shift-on-gay-marriage/?cat_orig=faith HOWEVER IN VAYIKRA AKA LEVITICUS 18:22 AND 20:13 IT IS CALLED AN ABOMINATION AND ALSO IN DEVARIM AKA DEUT. JUDAISM CANNOT CHANCE WHAT HASHEM SAID. One thing is tolerance for the individuals in a day when the death penalty cannot be implemented but the Torah cannot go against HASHEM Yisborach. The act is what the Pshat says and nothing can change that. That is what is wrong with the world. I grew up on a semi-sane planet where the act at best was called “queer” and civilized people did not go out to physically hurt these individuals but we did not think it a happy and gay act but that of sick individuals.

Inyanay Diyoma

Something happened and my data on Parsha Beresheis and days of news was lost I recovered most but the riots on the Temple Mount and a stabbing and stones was missed along with my editorial on dare-devil tourism that results in death. In the case of Nepal it was a monsoon bringing on early snows that caused the death of some Israelis. I also had a comment of Israelis sinking lower and lower in their behavior with alcohol attacking Arabs and the so-called Price Tag on Mosques which I condemn the same as a bombing of a Synagogue.

Before the Protective Edge battles Hamas was bankrupt to pay salaries now they have been pledged $5.4 billion which will cover reconstruction and believe me more and more weapons. The world is busy being hypocrites. If $540,000,000 were pledged to Ebola Research think of what could be different.
Ed-OP by me: A tragedy has occurred in a French Family. They were for liberty, equality and fraternity so they let their daughter associate with Muslim girls her age. She associated with the girls met a boy or so and went to Syria and ‘converted’ which a Jew cannot do because of the next world Judged as a Jew and not a child of Noach. She became radicalized by ISIS and came back to bomb her mother’s store and cursed out her parents and the Jews. They broke the story to the police and another 99 French Citizens were arrested too. I traveled this Chol HaMoed and last month to various places in Eretz Yisrael I enclose a few photos out of about 300
41 years ago right after Simchas Torah, a group of settlers gathered by the Yeshuv for 2nd dancing with the Torah. Rabbi Levinger of Nechelim gave his support we were with trucks that carried passengers called "tealiyot" in Hebrew. They were top heaven and unstable the police of the labor party under Yitzchak RAbin tried to stop us and we closed the route 40 road which blocked all the area from the airport north and perhaps to Yerushalayim. The midnight traffic jam even in 1973 was so bad that the police opened up the road but blocked all routes to the shomron so we traveled by dirt roads. We were led by Chanan Porat, Benny Katzover and others. I was there with my modest self in the background. We were taken down from the area and again on Tisha b'Av they expected one settlement which blossomed into almost 400,000 people and many-many settlements and even cities. This is the Shomron including Mt. Eval and Mt. Gerizim.

From Gail Winston: 1.   The Hamas-affiliated media recently reported that the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades was planning to establish what it called a popular army.” According to the reports, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades was recruiting as many civilian volunteers as possible, regardless of age. They will be given basic military training, especially how to fire various types of weapons. The objective is to train them to act as an auxiliary force for Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades operatives in a future confrontation with Israel.
2.   To that end, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades posted an announcement in the Abdallah Azzam mosque in the Al-Sabra neighborhood of Gaza City, & apparently in other mosques as well. It requested all Gazan civilians to train as part of a “popular army” & to register with Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades representatives (Qudspress.com, September 25, 2014). The Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades intend to hold training camps for the “popular army” throughout the Gaza Strip with the slogan “We all [fight for] the resistance.” Rounds of basic training are supposed to be held in weekly sessions & will be open to volunteers throughout the year. According to Abu Mujahad, the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades’ training commander, civilian volunteers will be trained in the use of all types of weapons, from light arms to hand grenades. He claimed that thousands of young Gazans had already signed up in the mosques for training. He added that the “popular army” would have a designated role in a future confrontation with Israel (Paltimes.net, September 27, 2014).
3.   The military training will be given by Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades operatives & volunteers will be trained in groups by age: first those 14 to 20 years of age, then older volunteers & finally mature & elderly adults. According to a report, 1,800 young men in the Jabaliya refugee camp have already signed up. The first round of training began on September 27, 2014, & will continue until October 4, 2014. The training is currently being held in the Tareq bin Ziyad mosque in Al-Shejaiya (PALDF, September 29, 2014).
4.   According to the Facebook page of Musa Abu Marzouq, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, he claimed that the so-called “rumors” that Hamas was planning to establish a “popular army” were untrue. However, he added that “Hamas is maneuvering between the approach that says we are part of this society & such a decision needs a national consensus; the fact that says we [live] in the society of resistance, we need a culture, concept & training for resistance to guard our people & protect our homeland…” (Facebook page of Musa Abu Marzouq, September 29. 2014).
5.   It is unclear at this point what the scope of enlistment in the “popular army” has been. Apparently there are signs on the ground (See pictures below), even locally, that it is not a matter of rumor (as claimed by Musa Abu Marzouq). In ITIC assessment, civilians are being trained for the “popular army” to preserve public support for Hamas in the Gaza Strip & to maintain solidarity with the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, as manifested during & after Operation Protective Edge.
6.   If in fact thousands of Gazans enlist in the “popular army” & are trained to participate in future conflicts with Israel, it may become more difficult to distinguish between military-terrorist operatives & uninvolved civilians, including adolescents & the elderly. Among those Hamas wants to enlist are adolescents under 18 & mature & elderly adults. In addition, an examination of the names of Gazan casualties of Operation Protective Edge indicates the inclusion of 15 & 17 year-olds in the ranks of Hamas & the other terrorist organizations, although the extent of their inclusion is unknown.

The full truth, revealed here for the first time, is much more severe: apparently, during Operation Protective Edge, the USA had completely stopped all connections with Israel’s defense procurement delegation based in the USA. For days, no item whatsoever could be shipped. The expected airlift of US ammunition had never even arrived at its point of departure. US-Israeli Relations: National Security Trauma Pursuant to developments during Operation Protective Edge, the Israeli defense establishment will reduce the production of weapon systems in the USA in the context of joint Israeli-American projects, & will rely more heavily on Israeli-made products Amir Rapaport, Washington 16/10/2014 http://www.israeldefense.com/?CategoryID=483&ArticleID=3169
US-Israeli Relations: National Security Trauma Here is another unfamiliar result of Operation Protective Edge: the Israeli defense establishment will reduce the production of weapon systems in the USA in the context of joint Israeli-American projects, & will rely more heavily on Israeli-made products. Under a veil of secrecy, a decision has already been made at IMOD not to enable the production of at least one highly sensitive weapon system on US soil, despite the fact that the manufacture of said system in the USA may be funded through US defense aid instead of being paid for in NIS with Israeli taxpayer money.
The Israeli defense establishment will also intensify the manufacture of Israeli missiles that can substitute US-made munitions. The decision, in itself, will not have a substantial effect on Israel’s security status, but it represents a major trauma in US-Israeli defense relations: things that had been taken for granted until Operation Protective Edge, like the fact that Israel could always count on a US airlift of ammunition in a time of trouble, are no longer certain at all.
The cause of this trauma was, naturally, the decision by the USA not to enable the shipping of ammunition to Israel during Operation Protective Edge. The story was revealed for the first time by Wall Street Journal, which reported that a shipment of Hellfire missiles for helicopters was withheld, based on US sources.
The crisis began about ten days into Operation Protective Edge, pursuant to allegations that the percentage of uninvolved civilian deaths in the Gaza Strip was extremely high (IDF admitted that about one half of all Palestinian deaths were probably civilians who had not been involved in the fighting).
At that stage, the Israeli defense establishment submitted to the USA a request for various types of munitions, including Hellfire missiles, to replenish the dwindling inventories of IDF.
The urgent request was submitted using a procedure that the Israeli defense establishment practices as part of every training exercise & wartime scenario – through the European Command of the US military (EUCOM).
The order to stop the processing of all Israeli requests came from a senior echelon – probably the White House, among other reasons, because Israel had ignored the initiatives of Secretary of State John Kerry & preferred to end the operation through a direct channel with the Egyptians. The State Department had been annoyed with Israel for several months, since it was revealed that Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon had referred to Kerry as ‘Messianic’ in closed sessions.
The freezing of working relations vis-à-vis the Israeli procurement delegation generated a lot of frustration, but it should be noted that at the same time, strategic cooperative alliances between Israel & the USA continued through other channels. The Americans even allowed the IDF to use the materiel inventories they keep in storage depots on Israeli soil, which constitute ‘backup’ for the IDF inventories, in accordance with previous agreements between the two countries.
Israeli defense establishment authorities thought initially that the Americans delayed the airlift for the first time since the Yom-Kippur War of 1973, but US sources in Washington pointed out that a similar step was taken during the first Lebanon War in 1982.
Israel Defense has learned further that within the Israeli defense establishment, this recent affair has led to a reassessment of the almost automatic reliance on an airlift of ammunition from the USA as a part of practically every wartime scenario.
Among the measures currently under consideration is a review of the option of increasing the amount of US materiel stored in Israel in advance & a massive transition to Israeli-made munitions. For example, the Hellfire missiles the Americans failed to deliver may be replaced by IAI missiles, while precision guided munitions by Rafael may replace US-made air-to-surface munitions. Since Operation Protective Edge, Israeli defense industries have already received urgent procurement orders for arms & munitions worth billions of NIS.
Israeli & American defense industries have numerous joint projects under way, but pursuant to the developments during Operation Protective Edge, the standing order is for the weapon systems, at least in the context of one specific project, to be manufactured on Israeli soil.
Emerging from the Crisis?
It should be noted that the arms issue was resolved toward the end of Operation Protective Edge & that despite the recent events, the strategic defense relations between the two countries continue even now, including extensive intelligence cooperation. US DOD & IMOD are also proceeding with numerous joint research & development projects & US defense aid will remain a substantial element of the Israeli defense budget, which enables Israel to acquire such extremely costly systems as the F-35 future fighter aircraft. The Americans have also increased their support for the Iron Dome project during Operation Protective Edge. Thus far, they have financed, through a special budget (beyond the usual defense aid), the acquisition of most of the new batteries.
The AUSA 2014 Annual Meeting & Exposition was held this week in Washington DC, & the Israeli presence at the event was massive.
Next week, Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon & IMOD Director General Dan Harel will arrive in the USA for talks at the Pentagon. Apparently, the events of Operation Protective Edge will be one of the issues discussed in the context of these talks. http://imra.org.il/story.php3?id=65172 My take is that the US wants to produce the Aircraft F-35 so will produce the planes if they supply it and the spare parts, that will be another story. In my opinion it is better that we rely upon HASHEM and ourselves for weapons and that we need more reserves. We cannot be dependent on the whims of this president or that. We had this with France after the 6 day war and I was working on alternative components to French Components after the Yom Kippur War as we moved to the US for supplies.

From Gail: Here’s the latest argument by Mr. Kerry for why those damn Israelis are to blame for ISIL – & that Israel had better damn listen to the master’s voice & agree to divide Jerusalem, withdraw from the West Bank & leave the Jewish State’s security to a piece of paper.
“As I went around & met with people in the course of our discussions about the ISIL coalition, the truth is we – there wasn’t a leader I met with in the region who didn’t raise with me spontaneously the need to try to get peace between Israel & the Palestinians, because it was a cause of recruitment & of street anger & agitation that they felt – & I see a lot of heads nodding – they had to respond to. & people need to understand the connection of that. & it has something to do with humiliation & denial & absence of dignity, & Eid celebrates the opposite of all of that.”
